June 12, 2008

Today we travelled from Red Deer to Grand Praire Canada. Things went very well today. Carl had a driving experience in Edmonton. We were suppose to stay straight and he oops to the right! We got out there without too many battle wounds!!

I drove again for about 100 miles today. Up and down hills, I think I did OK. Need to practice in the cities, (but don't tell Carl).

Beautiful scenery here if you like hills and trees! Canada doesn't know anything about a slow down! They are booming here! Building huge buildings and malls!

Talk about crazy drivers, Canada has them! They go so fast and cut in and out of traffic. Watch out!!!

I forgot to mention in yesterday's post that we had a problem with the jack alarm! After that terrible rain and wind all night on Tuesday night, we decided to leave and when we put the coach into drive the beeper started going off and poor Sadie went crazy! Finally, after about an hr of that I called Mary Ann and she gave me the same number for Fleetwood that I had, we called Fleetwood, they said the fluid was probably low, so just disconnect the wires to the jacks! We did and it was quiet! Carl did put fluid in and they work fine now! Learning experiences!

It seems so odd to be so far away from all our loved ones out there! We are a long way from home!

Today gas in Canada is 124.9 per liter that is $4.72 a gallon. We will probably see $6.00 on the Al Can. That is OK we will only have to do this trip once!

We are staying in the Crossroads Camp Ground, it sure is rip! The sites are terrible, they charge $39. per night $10.00 for wifi, was going to take a shower and they charge for that! It isn't a nice park at all. Where do they get off ripping us off?

Tomorrow morning we will leave here, stop at Walmart and stock up on some supplies and then head out for Dawson Creek, where we will spend tomorrow and take off on Saturday morning.

More stuff tomorrow!!!!

Today Wednesday it is the 5th day on the road.

Last night in Cut Bank, Mt. the wind blew and it rained all night. We decided to head for Babb, Mt., and cross into Canada there. We were told by the Weather Channel that St. Mary was getting snow. On the way to Babb, Mt., you have to go on 89 through St. Mary. St. Mary was getting snow, but did we believe them? Come on it is June 11, 2008 ! You will see by the pictures we did get into snow! The road is winding and up and down, let me tell you there were two people on board the Bounder that were pretty scared!

We entered into Canada with no glitches. They didn't inspect our Motor Home, just asked us questions. We had the passports and Sadies info.
We were good to go!

So today we traveled from Cut Bank, Montana to Red Deer Canada.

Tomorrow we hope to get to Grand Praire, Alberta. That would make us an hour and half or so out of Dawson Creek.

I think we are making good time.

So far today we have travelled 1,890 miles.

Todays stop Cut Bank, Montana

Well, today has been a real adventure!

We left Glasgow, Montana, headed west into a combination of wind, rain, sleet and I think snow! Very gusty winds, blew us all over the road. We would experienced nice weather then we would run into awful weather.

We entered Dobson, Mt., road construction, probably 5 miles long, rough as it could be, the step went down, wouldn't retract back, the alarms on the jacks kept going off. Needless to say that wasn't fun at all. You might say it was stressful!

The area between Glasgow, Mt.and Shelby Mt. were rolling country side, with sagebrush fields with lots of grain fields! Still not much traffic on West 2. Lots of trains! I have never seen so may trains. This must be the route from the Pacific to Duluth! I will post some pictures of that another day.

Close to Harve, Mt., we got into rain, hail, sleet and horrific wind. They also are doing a new road! Bumpy and rain, what a drive! We had to stop it was so bad. There was so much sleet that it was staying on the road! We got back on the road and drove to Cut Bank, Mt. I called the KOA in St. Mary, MT., to see how far away we were, she told me they were experiencing snow, and to be careful if we were going to venture to St. Mary today. There was a tourist center, in pouring down rain we ran into the building, we talked the girl there, she directed us to the Riverview RV Park in Cut Bank. Here we are! All snuggled into the Bounder, keeping warm with the heaters with the weather forecast to read:

Snow flurries 2 to 4 inches! High 39 degrees tomorrow.

Get this.......Snow Warning! 2 to 4 inches of snow in Babb, Mt., that is where we are heading in the morning...maybe.

This is unreal, it is so cooooold here! Back in 1955 when we were at Yellowstone National Park, my parents and I experienced snow on July 4!
I remember that seemed so cool to have snow in July! :(

We drove 286 miles today!
Total mileage appx 1500 miles so far.

Traveling, Sally driving, Montana

June 8, 2008

We traveled from Michigamme, Michigan to Arvilla, North Dakota. We drove 505 miles.

We made it through Duluth, MN, by the skin of our teeth! That was a learning lesson!

Our overnight was at Turtle River State Park. A very nice state park, with great facilities.

June 9, 2008

Today we traveled through North Dakota, rolling hills and plains. Mostly farm land, cattle ranches and many oil wells! Nice country, but Michigan is the best place to live.

We learned today what the phrase, “ Big Sky Montana” means. It really means a Big Sky! It is so vast!

We experienced10 mpg, which of course made Carl very happy! Today we filled up in Stanley, N.D. and we experienced 8.25 per gal, but we were in some hills, which made the engine work a little harder.

Our destination tonight is Shady Rest RV Park in Glasgow, MT. A quaint little park, with mostly large permanent trailers! Grassy and nice. Lots of rocks in this part of Montana.

I also want to post that Sally drove today! 50 miles! Pretty cool! I know that my Dad was smiling down on me today.

Today we recorded 463 miles.

All is going well, enjoying the scenery.

Tomorrow is to Babb, Montana, crossing into Canada.

June 8, 2008

We stayed at Lake Michigamme, today we are heading toward Dulth, MN.

Michigan is a beautiful state. Lake Michigan and Lake Superior are beautiful lakes! We are so fortunate to live in this great state.

Sadie isn't sure she likes this way of living. Pretty hard to change her routine after 8 years. She misses her brother and Marilyn

We are heading out now. Will post again soon.

Great Retirement Party!

I just had the best Retirement Party anyone could have! Thank you to Paul and Elaine and all their hard work putting the party together! Thank you to Pearls for being so accommodating to 34 of us, they did a good job.

I know I have the best friends in the world, they came to help me celebrate my retirement from work!

In 1984 after we moved to Elk Rapids, I decided I should go to work. There was an ad in the Town Meeting for a receptionist at Tim George's Office. It was in October, the Tigers were in the World Series, Rick and I were fortunate to have tickets to go to a game, while I was in Detroit, Mr. George called for me to come in for an interview, he hired me. I worked for Tim for 12 1/2 years, he was great to work for, I could leave and go to Rick's ball games, go home early if Amy was sick. I loved working for him, he taught me so much while I was working there. I was working part time, and decided I needed another part time job, so Mr. Misico had a ad, he liked what he saw on the resume and the rest is history. So I guess, I have been working for 24 years and decided it was enough. I will keep working doing what I like, to keep my mind going too!

Carl and I have traveling to do, Sally has scrap booking to do. We will find plenty to do I am sure.

Again, I can't thank my friends enough for coming to the party. It was great! Thank you!

Richard and Linda thank you for the delicious cake! The best gift was the "Gold" a great gift!

Thanks again everyone.
